My Top Ten favorite Matter of Fact comics continue to celebrate the 200th comic coming up this Friday:

6. Monk See

This one appeals to me because I know the evolution this panel went through to get to this final state. Usually, my comics are one-stop drawings and they are finalized, mainly because I try to work out the kinks before I draw them. However, when I drea the original to this I wasn’t satisfied with the set-up of the joke. It didn’t do the punchline justice. So I drew another draft, similar to the one that you see here, however it showed a monk pouring candlewax down the other monk’s robe. The candle fit the time period better however it was so small you could not tell what was going on. So I thought- what would be big enough to use for this practical joke? Of course- crash cymbals. Monks always use those! No but seriously, I do like the pacing of this comic a lot. It also does have a message…especially for parents- whether you know it or not your actions will be the example for the others around you. Are you a prick in front of your kids? Guess what? Miniature pricks.

5. Doomed Relationship

The main reason I like this comic so much is because the snowman is not the only who will be dooomed by this relationship. People often overlook that by the snowman melting his water will go into the electric outlet that the radiator is plugged into and short circuit it. THUS, the truly doomed relationship for all involved. I don’t know how this one came to me as I live in Florida. I just remember trying to think up a relationship where both parties are doomed from the start, but how I got to a snowman and a radiator I have no idea.
