More from the countdown- 4th and 3rd
- By Bogey on July 2nd, 2009I just realized that with this countdown happening every day this week that you are getting 3 Matter of Fact comics a day. THREE! That has got to be truly amazing for you guys. Truly amazing, I agree. ONWARD to the countdown!
4. GPS
I actually got this idea from a GPS actually telling us to drive off a cliff. Awesome. We were driving on top of a mountain in North Carolina and there was a left turn coming up and it told us to take a right, which would have plummeted us to our deaths. I don’t do it often but I disagreed with GPS on that one. However, the real reason I like this one is not because it is funny, because it really isn’t at all (which I’m sure most of you say that to about more than half of my comics). The reason I like it and the real reason I drew it is because of the message. Even though you are using GPS to tell you where to go you still have to pay attention and use your own brain and to decipher what it is telling you and also if that is really the best thing for you. The same can be said for a belief system or if you were reading a book that you really really liked. Even though you may agree with most of the stuff that book is telling you you still have to look at the real world application. Does it translate well or are there some things in there that are questionable? If a GPS system told you to drive off a cliff and you knew that it would kill you would you blindly follow that instruction?
3. KKK Three’s Company
The last time I did my Top Ten Favorites for my first 100 comcis this was #1, and it almost was again. So close. I really do like this one a lot, and again it is because of the message of forming relationships based on similarities rather than differences. However, the comic offers up the reality of the world we live in with the wording of, “Even if only for a fraction of a moment” which of course implies that the hate between the KKK member and the African-American was restored almost instantly. Since the last Top Ten that I put out this comic has hit home more than ever. I still hear of people of one religion bashing other religions (more often than I like to hear); I have heard some VERY narrowed minded viewpoints on Barack Obama being voted president and these complaints that I am speaking of were not because of his policies but because of the color of his skin; and then society’s take on homosexuality. I can not believe how outright prejudiced people are against homosexuals and the things people are allowed to say without getting in trouble…and that is from people in publicly paid elected positions! What is the commonality that homosexuals and heterosexuals have? Well, the biggest thing is that we all have a desire to love and be loved. It isn’t about what sexual organ goes where and up what. It is about people having a relationship with each other and sharing that love for one another. This is also where the GPS comic and this comic blend together so well. Use YOUR judgement to decide if bashing a person based on their sexual preference is right. How would you like it if someone told you that you and your spouse had to get divorced or that you two should never be allowed to marry? I don’t think you would like that at all and you would probably wonder why this was the other person’s business to begin with.
Anyway, I am stepping off my soapbox. Tomorrow concludes the Top Ten Countdown. Be sure to check back in. Thanks for reading!
